JOE GASSNOLA 1934-2010 Obituary

JOE GASSNOLA, age 76 years, a former resident of Belington, WV and more recently a resident of Alum Creek, WV departed this life Tuesday morning, August 17, 2010 at his home. Death was attributed to cancer.

He was born Tuesday, July 24, 1934 at Elkins, WV, a son of the late Antonio Gassnola and Catarina Monda Gassnola. On April 22, 1978 at Tallmansville, WV he was married to the former Shirley Fortney who survives. Also surviving are one son, Murl Anthony Gassnola, TX; four daughters, Katrina Jane Gallion, OH, Kimberly Dawn Bowman, TX; Angela Jo Vance, Junior; and Brenda Lee Mabry, LA; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death is one son: Joseph Allen Gassnola, four brothers, Fred, Tony, Ralph and Louie Gassnola; and two sisters, Grace Calain and Rose Harper

He attended the schools of Randolph County, was a veteran of the Korean War serving with the U.S. Army, and was a truck driver and heavy equipment operator for many years. He was a member of the Saint Brendan Catholic Church and was a lifetime member of the Tygart’s Valley Post # 3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 6 to 8 PM, Thursday. The casket will remain closed. Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel, Friday, August 20, 2010 at 11:30 AM. The Very Rev. Donald X. Higgs, VF will be the presider and internment will follow at the Saint Brendan Cemetery at Elkins, WV, where the H. W. Daniel’s Post # 29, American Legion and the Tygart’s Valley Post # 3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars will conduct full military rites.
