John Burdette Jr., 75, a resident of Files Creek Road, Beverly, departed this life Sunday afternoon, April 20, 2003, at the Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.

He had been in declining health.

He was born Tuesday, Aug. 9, 1927, at Elkins, the son of the late John Burdette Sr. and Era Herndon Burdette.

On Dec. 26, 1951, he was married to the former Mary Elizabeth Beck, who preceded him in death on July 4, 1993.

Surviving are three sons, John Burdette III and wife, Wilma, Beverly, Steve Burdette and Robbie Burdette, both of Sebastian Fla.; one daughter, Jeannie DeLoach and husband, David, Port Saint John, Fla.; and five grandchildren, Dillon DeLoach, Harlea Danielle Burdette, Autumn Elizabeth Burdette, Tyler Wade Lambert and Amber Lee Lambert.

Preceding him in death besides his wife and parents are one daughter, Deborah Lynn Lambert.

He attended the schools of Beverly and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving on board the USS Cabot as a seaman first class during World War II.

He worked for the U.S. Department of the Interior-U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at the Bowden Fish Hatchery, was a member of the Tygarts Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars and the H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel Thursday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Donald L. Fitzwater will officiate and interment will follow at the Beverly Cemetery at Beverly, where the Tygarts Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars and the H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion will conduct full military rites.
