JOHN EDWARD “JOHNNY” SILVESTER, age 84 years, a resident of Coalton, WV departed this life Monday afternoon, April 11, 2011 at the Davis Memorial Hospital.

He was born Tuesday, February 8, 1927 at Coalton, WV a son of the late Romeo Silvester and Marie DiBacco Silvester. On July 30, 1955 at Coalton, WV he was married to the former Esther Marie Girard, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Angela Marie Poling and husband Alan, Elkins; Kimberly Ann Silvester, Quiet Dell; two brothers, Joseph Silvester and wife Idia, Elkins; Anthony F. Silvester and wife Jean, Norton; three sisters, Mary Ferruso, Clarksburg; Pauline Johnson, Elkins; Maggie DeMotto and husband L. Hugh, Red Creek.

Preceding him in death are one brother, Vincent “Fred” Silvester; and two sisters, Elizabeth May Bay and Helen “Dolly” Silvester.

He was a graduate of Coalton High School with the Class of 1944 and was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U. S. Navy. He had worked as a coal miner and then as a heavy equipment operator, retiring from Polino Contracting. He was instrumental in starting the Roaring Creek Little League and helped build the little league ball field. He was a former member of the Tygart’s Valley Lions Club, was a member of the Tygart’s Valley Post # 3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church at Coalton.

The family will recieve friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 5 to 8 PM, Thursday. On Thursday, at 6:30 PM, at the funeral home a wake service will be receited. On Friday, April 15, 2011, Mr. Silvester will be moved to the Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church at Coalton, where the Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 AM. In keeping with his wishes, Mr. Silvester’s request for cremation to follow, will be honored.
