John J. Kriner, age 92, of Buckhannon, WV died Saturday, December 8, 2012 at Nella’s Nursing Home in Crystal Springs, WV. He was born April 18, 1920 in Buckhannon, a son of the late John and Iva Hoover Kriner. On August 11, 1952 he married Mary L. Lorentz Kriner who survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Marie Kriner of Sweetwater, TN; one son, John C. Kriner of Buckhannon; two grandsons, Travis Lee Kelley of Buckhannon and Jeremiah Kriner of Sweetwater; several nieces and nephews; son in law, Randy “Pork” Kelley of Buckhannon; brother in law, Jimmie Lorentz of Buckhannon and one great granddaughter, Gabrielle Kelley of Buckhannon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Phyllis Kelley; two brothers, Carl and Joe Kriner and three sisters, Opal, Margaret and Lillian. Mr. Kriner was a delivery truck driver for Ward’s Cleaners. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He served in the US Army during WW II and Korean War and was awarded many medals and commendations. He was awarded the combat infantryman badge with star, Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars, American Defense Service Medal, and Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Ribbon and Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and was Sergeant when leaving the service in April 1955. He was a life member of the Buckhannon VFW Post # 3663, Life Member French Creek Chapter # 36 DAV and a member of Frank B. Bartlett Post # 7 American Legion. He was a member of the AARP. Friends will be received Monday, December 10, 2012 from 4-8 PM at the Poling-st. Clair Funeral Home with a Prayer Service beginning at 4 PM. Mass Christian Burial will be held 10 AM Tuesday at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Father Ron Nikodem as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Buckhannon Veterans Cemetery in Buckhannon. Buckhannon VFW Post # 3663, Frank B. Bartlett Post # 7 American Legion and DAV Chapters # 5 & # 36 will conduct Military Honors at the graveside.
