OBITUARY: JOHN W. NESTOR JR. John W. Nestor Jr., 95, of Kasson Community, Rt. #1, Moatsville, died Monday, September 6, in Mansfield Place, Philippi, following an extended illness. He was born September 4, 1915, at Kasson, a son of the late John Wesley Nestor Sr. and the late Hattie Vilena (Sturm) Nestor. On January 1, 1942, he married the former Pearl Waugh, who survives at Kasson Community. Also surviving are two daughters, Karen Anderson and husband, Charles, Beverly, Sandra Haller and husband, Doug, Philippi; one son, Steven Nestor and wife, Marsha, Belington; two sisters, Hattie Sedalia Freeman, Moatsville, Mary Louise Gainer, Red Lodge, Mont.; one brother, Richard H. Nestor, Rivesville; six grandchildren, Katrina Riggleman and husband, Jeff, Fredericksburg, Va., Jason Anderson and wife, Cheryl, Wildomar, Cal., Sarah Harris and husband, Mark, Philippi, Rochelle Nestor, Belington, Tracy Minor and husband, Eric, Weirton, Chad Haller, Philippi; five great grandchildren, Kaitlyn Riggleman, Makayla Anderson, Slaton Harris, Arden and Benjamin Minor and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers, William D. Nestor, George H. Nestor, Robert Jennings Nestor and James E. Nestor Sr. Mr. Nestor was a well known teacher and coach. He was a graduate of Fairmont State College and had pursued course work towards his Master’s degree. He began his teaching career prior to World War II but at the outbreak of the war, he entered the U. S. Army Air Corps and served 39 months in the African and European theater of operations. He returned to public education in 1950 and served as teacher and assistant coach at the Kasson 12 Year School. At the consolidation of Barbour County high schools, he continued at the Kasson Elementary and Junior High School as teacher and coach and retired in 1975 as Principal of the Kasson Elementary and Middle School. Mr. Nestor was a member of the Kasson U.M. Church. He was a member of Bigelow Lodge #52, A.F.& A.M., Tygart Valley Chapter, #39, R.A.M. and Philippi Chapter #41, O.E.S. He was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason with membership in the Clarksburg and Wheeling bodies. He was a charter member of the Kasson Ruritan Club where he had held all local offices and was a past district Lt. Governor. He was a member of the Barbour County Farm Bureau and was a Life Member of Laurel Mountain Post #410, V.F.W. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, September 9, from the Stemple & Forman Funeral Home, 385 So. Main Street, Philippi. The Rev. James Johnson and the Rev. Larry Poling will officiate and interment will follow in the Mt. Morris Cemetery where Masonic grave side rites will be conferred by Bigelow Lodge #52 and military rites will be conferred by Barbour Post #44, American Legion. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2:00 until 9:00 P.M. on Wednesday and from 9:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M., the funeral hour on Thursday. Philippi Chapter #41, O.E.S. will conduct the Eastern Star service at 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday evening. Stemple & Forman Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.
