DR. JOHN WILLIAM CHAMBERS, age 83 years, a resident of Parsons, WV, departed this life Saturday morning June 22, 2013 at his home. He had been in declining health.

He was born Thursday, November 7, 1929 at Richmond, KY, a son of the late Clarence and Catherine Griggs Chambers. On June 6, 1965 at Nashville, KY, he was married to the former Nancy Caroline Allen, who preceded him in death on October 28, 2009. They had celebrated forty-four years of marriage.

Surviving are two sons, Michael Chambers and wife, Leah Ritchie, of Lynnfield, MA, and Matthew Chambers and wife, Maggie, of Parsons, WV; two sisters, Marietta McBride of Richmond, KY and Martha Harris of Eugene, OR; two brothers, Charles and Donald Chambers, both of Richmond, KY; nine grandchildren, Amanda, Heather, Catherine, John, Christopher, Samantha, Erin, Maria and Sarah Chambers; and several nieces, nephews and their descendants.

Preceding him in death is one sister, Patty Sue Carr on June 20, 2001.

John was raised and educated in Richmond, KY, working much of his early life on the family dairy farm. He continued his education and received a B.S. in Chemistry from Eastern Kentucky University, then went on to earn his PhD in Pharmacology at Vanderbilt. From there he went to teach at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, VA, then at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg, WV. He taught at WVSOM for twenty-one years until his retirement in 1997, earning numerous awards and citations for excellence in teaching and as a lecturer.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 from 4 to 6 PM. Dr. Chambers’ request for cremation will then follow. Memorials will be held at a later date in Lewisburg, WV and Richmond, KY.
