John William Woods 1940-2002 Obituary

John William Woods, 62, of 302 Nathan St., Elkins, died Saturday morning, Aug. 3, 2002, at his home. He had been in ill health, but death was unexpected.

He was born June 30, 1940, at Gage, Barbour County, a son of the late Herbert Samuel and Mary Ethel Johnson Wood Sr.

His wife, the former Sylvia Juanita Woods, survives at 302 Nathan St., Elkins.

Also surviving are one son, James A. Woods, Teter Lake community; three daughters, Loretta Woods, Philippi, Virginia Simmons, Avan Park, Fla., and Melissa Woods, Martinsburg; two brothers, Herbert S. Wood Jr., Los Angeles, Calif., and George R. Wood, Staunton, Va.; two sisters, Rosa J. Copen, Junior, and Nina R. Taylor, Huttonsville; and four grandsons, Clarence Gochenour III, Freddie Summerfield Jr., Logan Allen Woods and Nicholas Viachos.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, John William Woods Jr.; and three sisters, Mary J. Shahan, Letha Katherine Wood and Kay Francis Wood.

Mr. Woods was a former coal miner and a Baptist by faith.

Friends may call at Schoonover-stemple Funeral Chapel in Belington from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Wednesday when funeral services will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Jim Curtis officiating. Interment will follow in Trinity Cemetery.
