Lt. Col. Joseph “Bud” P. Hehle, age 80 years, departed this life on Monday, April 4, 2011, surrounded by loved ones, at his home.

He was born at Parsons, WV and was a resident of Hampton, VA for fourty-three years. He is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Frances “Frannie” Hehle; daughters: Eve Hehle of Norfolk,VA and Sally McCune of St. Marys, WV; and grandchildren: Ashleigh McCune Bonner and husband Shawn, and Christopher McCune. He is preceded in death by his parents: Paul and Gladys Hehle, and one granddaughter, Mallory Elizabeth McCune.

Bud served honorably in the U.S. Army twice during the Vietnam War and retired as Lt. Col. in 1978 after twenty-four years of service. He was decorated with the Vietnam Staff Service Medal (1st class), the Legion of Merit Armed Forces Medal (1st class), the Air Medal, and the Legion of Merit with 1 oak leaf cluster. He served in other capacities as well, including Past President of the Mercury Lions Club, Past President of the WV Alumni Association, President of Briarqueen Swim Team, President of Virginia Peninsula Swim Union; and President of his Neighborhood Watch Program. He was a member of Tyler Memorial Methodist Church.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at Parklawn-wood Funeral Home in Hampton, VA. A celebration of Bud’s life will be held Thursday, April 7, at 4:30 p.m. at the funeral home in Hampton. Interment will take place on Saturday, April 9 at 2:00 p.m. at the Parsons City Cemetery, in Parsons, WV. The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements for Lt. Col. Joseph “Bud” P. Hehle.
