Joseph D. “Joey” Dickinson, age 45 years, a resident of Elkins passed away Sunday, November 8, 2020 at his home surrounded by his friends and family following a courageous battle with cancer (neuroendocrine carcinoma).

He was born April 5, 1975 in Charleston, WV a son of Susan McGee Dickinson Channell of Elkins and Martin “Marty” B. Dickinson of Elkins.

On June 6, 1998 in Elkins, he was married to Amanda “Mandy” E. Channels who survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Alexander “Alex” Dickinson and Lucas Dickinson, of Elkins; one brother, Andy Dickinson of Medford, OR; one sister, Rachel Channell of Aspen, CO and step-mother, Debbie Dickinson. Mother and father-in-law, Ralph and Ellen Channels of Elkins; brother and sister-in-law, Donnie and Missy Channels of Elkins; sister-in-law, Mercedes Dickinson of Medford, OR; niece and nephew Avirl and Isaac Dickinson of Medford, OR; and nephews, Bradley and Conner Channels of Elkins and Joey’s dog Sammy. Preceding him in death were his step-father, Sam Channell and many other family members. Joey graduated from West Virginia University with a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration and Human Resources. Joey was passionate about baseball; he began coaching Little League in 2006 and continued to coach with Babe Ruth until the 2019 season when he traded in his coach’s hat to serve as an umpire for Babe Ruth. He was employed by Channels Contracting. Joey’s family would like to thank everyone at Davis Medical Center where Mandy and Joey both worked for the outpouring of love and support they have provided since the day Joey received his diagnosis and to the community of Elkins for their unparalleled love, support, and generosity. Joey was a loving father, husband, son, and friend.
Friends may call from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm Friday, November 13, 2020 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. Masks and social distancing will be required for everyone attending the visitation. Cremation will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Elkins Babe Ruth League, C/o Steve Schumacher, 416 Maple Lane, Elkins, WV 26241 in memory of Joey. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Joseph D. “Joey” Dickinson.
