Joseph Herbert “Joe” Culver, 52, a resident of Route 1, Beverly, the East Dailey community, departed this life Saturday evening, May 31, 2003, at his home. He had been in declining health.

He was born Friday, Nov. 17, 1950, at Washington, D.C., the son of the late Francis “Joe” Culver and Rita Tothill Culver.

On Nov. 17, 1990, at Annapolis, Md., he was married to the former Lucy Nan McLaughlin, who survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Keith Culver and wife, Diane, and Mike Culver and wife, Jennifer, all of Maryland; one daughter, Josie Crzywacz, Maryland; one stepson, Jamie VanNess and wife, Kathy, New York; one stepdaughter, Becky Jo VanNess, New York; two brothers, Troy Culver, Florida, and Wayne Culver, Washington, D.C.; three sisters, Marlene, Charlene and Peggy; his mother-in-law, Ruth McLaughlin, Elkins; one brother-in-law, Robert McLaughlin and wife, Christine, Elkins; 10 grandchildren, Kasey, Abby, Sara, Amber, Julia, Zachary, Brianne, Joshua, Cierra and Conner; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Steve Culver.

He attended the schools of Washington, D.C., was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and served during the Vietnam War. He was a glazer for various glass companies throughout America, including Talbott Paint and Glass of Elkins and various local contractors, and had worked as a meat cutter.

He was an avid NASCAR fan and outdoorsman and was a member of the First Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel Tuesday at 2 p.m. The Rev. Dr. Marvin L. Parli and the Rev. Nancy I. Stevens will officiate and interment will follow at the Maplewood Cemetery at Elkins.
