June Gayle Harper Thompson, 81, of Seneca Rocks, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003, at the Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford, NC.

Mrs. Thompson was born Dec. 4, 1922, in Macksville and was the daughter of the late Henry Elmer Harper and Mary Susan Thompson Harper.

In addition to being a housewife, mother and nurse, she was a store merchant and active postmaster of the Macksville Post Office from Dec. 1, 1950, to May 10, 1951, when it was transferred to Seneca Rocks.

She was also an entertainer, playing the guitar and singing at family weekend gatherings.

Her love of stray cats and feeding wild birds was her passion.

Everyone who knew her will have another angel on their shoulder.

She was a member of Seneca Presbyterian Church.

Her husband, Blan Thompson, preceded her in death Dec. 25, 1982.

She is survived by a son, Dallas Harper of Sanford, NC; two daughters, Loretta F. Barlow of Arlington, VA, and Darlene Thompson of Ashville, NC; two grandchildren, Dexter Harper and Robert Barlow; five great-grandchildren; a niece and a nephew.

She was also preceded in death by one brother, Morris Harper.

Chaplain Paul O’Gorek conducted the funeral 1 p.m. Sunday at the Seneca Presbyterian Church.

Burial was in the Harper Family Cemetery in Seneca Rocks.

Memorial donations may be made to Seneca Presbyterian Church.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg
