Kathleen Phares Murphy 1937-2002
Kathleen Phares Murphy, 85, of Ocala, Fla., formerly of Huttonsville and Elkins, died on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002, in Timberridge Rehabilitation Center in Ocala.
Mrs. Murphy was born in Cass, a daughter of the late Frank and Mittie Gear Phares.
On Oct. 23, 1937, she married Russell D. Murphy, who preceded her in death on Jan. 8, 1995.
She was raised in Huttonsville and resided in Elkins for most of her life.
Surviving are a son, Gary, of Ocala, Fla.; two daughters, Sondra Jones and Sharon Mahan, both of Ocala, Fla.; a sister, Josephine Phares Murphy and husband, Roscoe “Rock” Murphy, Ocala, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Cathy Shipman, Riverview, Fla., Scott Murphy, Warrenton, Va., Rebecca Bennett, Tucker, Ga., Matthew Murphy, Covington, Ga., Mark Murphy, Ocala, Fla., Jennifer Murphy, Grand Cayman Island, and Kailey Murphy, Saugatuck, Mich.; and five great-grandchildren, Tessa Murphy, Warrenton, Va., Dustin and Brock Bennett, Tucker, Ga., Mitch and Jason Shipman, Riverview, Fla.
She was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Seth, died in infancy in 1984.
Mrs. Murphy was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Elkins and more recently, a member of Downtown Baptist Church of Ocala, Fla.
She was retired from the West Virginia Department of Veterans Affairs.
She was previously employed by Sears Catalog Store and Citizens National Bank.
Funeral Arrangements: Memorial services will be at the Downtown Baptist Church in Ocala, Fla., at 6:30 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. Tracy Willis officiating and her grandson, the Rev. Matthew Murphy, assisting. Interment will be in Mountain State Memorial Gardens in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Elkins.
