Obituary: Kenneth Lowell Poling Kenneth Lowell Poling, 81, of North Olmsted, OH, died Tuesday, September 18, in the Fairview Hospital, Cleveland, following an extended illness. He was born March 18, 1931, at Philippi, a son of the late Dellett Truman and Zella May (Boyles) Poling. His wife, the former Janice Martin, preceded him in death on November 19, 1992. Survivors include three sons, Kenneth Poling and wife, Christie, Walnut Grove, Miss., Alan Poling and wife, Laura, Bay Village, Oh., Andrew Poling and wife, Linda, Stow, Oh.; brother, Edmund A. Poling, Tallmadge, Oh.; grandchildren, Janice and Olivia Poling, Walnut Grove, Christopher and Jessica, Stow, Kayla and Sarina Poling, Bay Village; and a nephew, Edmund Poling Jr., Tallmadge. Mr. Poling was a graduate of Philippi High School and joined the army in 1953. He returned from the Army in 1956 and enrolled in Alderson – Broaddus College, receiving a B.S. in Art. While a student at A – B, he met Janice R. Martin, a nursing student and following her graduation the moved to Cleveland to find work and further their educations. Janice received her MBA in Nursing from Case Western Reserve University, became director of nursing at Cleveland Psychiatric Institute and later professor of nursing at Cuyahoga Community College, Parma, Oh. Mr. Poling worked at Republic Steel (Cleveland) as a researcher in electro-mechanics from 1966 until 1983. He then worked for British Petroleum Research until his retirement. Mr. Poling enjoyed photography and amateur radio. His inspiration came from watching his father work in his radio and television shop on Depot Street. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 21, from the Stemple & Forman Funeral Home, 385 So. Main Street, Philippi. The Rev. John Flynn will officiate and interment will follow in the Central Chapel Cemetery where Barbour County Post #44, American will confer military rites. Stemple & Forman Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.
