Larry Paul Currence, 54, a resident of Mill Creek passed from this life Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at the Hospice Inpatient Center in Elkins following an extended battle with cancer. He was born Sunday, January 6, 1957 at Mill Creek, a son of Coleman Currence and the late Marie Lloyd Currence. On March 15, 1975 at Mill Creek, he was married to the former Judy A. Shiflett who survives at Mill Creek. Larry attended the schools of Randolph County and had worked as a coal miner for several area mines until becoming disabled in 2000. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and his best times were spent with his grandchildren whom he adored. Also left to cherish Larry’s memory are three daughters, Cheryl Pritt and husband, Jeff of Mingo Flats, Terra Haas and husband, David of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, and Megan Currence and companion, Phillip Engelkemier of Mill Creek, two brothers, Denver Lloyd and wife, Hazel and James Currence and companion, Anita, two sisters, Patricia Shiflett and husband, Roger and Patty Johnson and husband, Dalton, three grandchildren, Kelsey Wyss, Kaleah Pritt, and Tierra Haas, two step grandchildren, Brandon Pritt and Paige Pritt, numerous nieces and nephews including five very close nieces, Wendy Barb, Teresa Shiflett, Angela Shiflett, Christine Shiflett, and Kathleen Shiflett , a special friend and caregiver, Robert “Tuck” Tackett. A special thanks goes out to Larry’s “other” family at the Cancer Care Center in Elkins who were very special to Larry and always made him feel comfortable and secure. Thanks also goes to the staff from Hospice Care Corporation. Besides his mother, Larry was preceded in death by two brothers, Doyle Currence and Ralph Lloyd, and two sisters, Hilda Gear and Peggy Currence. Visitation will be Saturday, June 4, 2011 from 11:30AM until 1:30PM, the funeral hour. Pastor Frank Stanley will officiate and interment will follow at the Brick Church Cemetery at Huttonsville.
