OBITUARY: LEAH MARIE STIER Leah Marie Stier, 77, of Berryburg Community, Rt. #3, Philippi, died Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at her home following an extended illness. She was born February 1, 1936, at Lumberport, a daughter of the late Burch Delbert and Vada Rea (Stackpole) Stackpole. On June 24, 1956, she was married Alva Franklin “Frank” Stier, who preceded her in death on May 3, 2002. Surviving are one daughter, Judith Metzgar and husband, George, Philippi; one brother, Delbert Ruth Stackpole, Roanoke, VA; four grandchildren, Brian Forrest Moats, David Joshua Metzgar, Heather Dawn Metzgar and Joseph Michael Metzgar; three great grandchildren, Harleigh Frame, Braylee Metzgar – Travis and Hailey Metzgar. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly Anne Stier; and by two sisters, Vesta Maude Holt and Elma Rae Cropp. Mrs. Stier was a graduate of Lumberport High School. She was a homemaker and had worked as a bookkeeper for the Western Auto Store. She enjoyed doing genealogy and needle crafts. She was a member of the Mary’s Chapel United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 P.M., on Sunday, July 7, 2013, from the Stemple & Forman Funeral Home, 385 So. Main Street, Philippi. The Rev. David Daugherty will officiate and interment will follow in the Mary’s Chapel Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11:00 A.M. until 3:00 P.M., the funeral hour on Sunday. The family requests that memorials take the form of donations to Peoples Hospice, 327 Medical Park Drive, Bridgeport, W.Va. 26330. The Stemple & Forman Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.
