Leonard Ray Evans, 62, a resident of the Blackman Flats community, Hambleton, and more recently a resident of Nella’s Nursing Home at Crystal Springs, departed this life Tuesday evening, July 29, 2003, at the nursing home. He had been in declining health for the past two years.

He was born April 20, 1941, at Leadmine, a son of Mabel Knotts Evans, who survives at Leadmine, and the late Glennis Dale “Bus” Evans.

Also surviving are one brother, Milton Evans and wife, Eloise, of Thomas, three sisters, Twyla Auvil and husband, Troy, of Scott Depot, Loretta Mills and husband, Jim, Springfield, and Barbara Miller and husband, Mont, of Parsons; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Clayton Dale Evans and Denzil Earl Evans.

He attended the Pine Grove School at Leadmine and was a graduate of Thomas High School. He was an employee with Doug Pennington Construction. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He loved the outdoors and was an avid gardener. He loved hunting, fishing and digging for wild ginseng.

The family will receive friends at Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor Friday at 2 p.m. Pastor Alvin Irons and Pastor Neil Parsons will officiate and interment will follow at Bethel Cemetery at Holly Meadows. The Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Leonard Ray Evans.
