Lillian Irene Mullennex, age 88 years, a former resident of Elkins and a resident of Holbrook Nursing Home, Inc. of Buckhannon for the past nine years, passed away Saturday Morning, June 4, 2011 at the nursing home. She was born March 1, 1923 at Durbin, a daughter of the late Abraham Lockridge and Louella Belle Curtis Lockridge. She was married to Garnet A. Mullennex, who preceded her in death in 1973. Surviving is one sister, Crystal Bender of Elkins and two daughters; Debra Barsy and husband Imre, Jr. of Yucca Valley, California and Lucinda Barrick and husband Rick of Elkins. Also surviving are four grandchildren; Donald Gooden, Ronald Gooden and wife Tracey and Jake Gooden, all of Elkins, Imre Barsy, III and wife Shannon, Newbury Park, California and five great grandchildren; Morgan Gooden of Harding, Abby and Tristan Gooden, both of Elkins and Rebekah and Rachel Barsy , both of Newbury Park, California. Also preceding her in death was one daughter, Donna Darlene McCloud Cottrell, three brothers, Charles Homer Lockridge, Reece Aquilla (Bud) Lockridge, Harold Lee (Bill) Lockridge and two sisters, Florence Amanda Lockridge, Helen Mae Collett.

Lillian retired in 1985 from the Elkins Convalescent Hospital after nearly 20 years of devoted and compassionate service to the patients. She had a natural gift with music and could play numerous instruments by ear. She brought hours of happiness to those she cared for by whistling, playing piano and harmonica and enjoyed playing and listening to music into her later years. Her loving smile and caring nature will be missed by her family and friends. Lillian’s family would like to thank Dr. Clyde Mitchell and the staff of Holbrook Nursing Home for the loving care they provided for her over the past nine years.

Friends may call at the Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins on Wednesday, June 8, 2011 from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M., the funeral hour. Rev. Wease Day will officiate and interment will follow at the American Legion’s little Arlington Cemetery near Elkins. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of a donation to either St. Joseph’s Hospice, 1 Amelia Drive, Buckhannon, WV 26201 or Hospice Care Corporation Regional Impatient Center, P.O. Box 760, Arthurdale, WV 26520. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Lillian Irene Mullennex.
