Lillie Edith Miller Phillips 1912-2002

Lillie Edith Miller Phillips, 89, of Norton, died at 8:25 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at her home. She had been in declining health since suffering a stroke on Nov. 25, 2001.

Mrs. Phillips was born April 20, 1912, in Jimtown, a daughter of the late Ward A. Miller and Margaret Phillips Miller.

On Oct. 29, 1930, in Norton, she married Ray Phillips, who preceded her in death on Dec. 31, 1980.

Surviving are a daughter, Margaret Kathryn Bodkins, Norton; a son, Thomas Ray Phillips, Norton; a sister, Lucy Harlan, Jimtown; three sisters-in-law, Jane Skidmore, Leota Miller and Kathleen Miller; a brother-in-law, Robert Phillips; six grandchildren, Rick Bodkins,, Belington, Ronald Bodkins and Kay Johnson, both of Norton, Tammy Leggett, Buckhannon, Janet Shiflett, Norton, and Susan Shiflett, Elkins; nine great-grandchildren, Dusti Lopez, Tanner Collins, Andrew Johnson, Brent Johnson, Alexis and Abagail Bodkins, Chantelle Leggett, Jeremiah Johnson and Russell Shiflett; two great-great-grandchildren, Katelyn and Kristin Lopez; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by six brothers, Harry, Earl, Paul, Clarence, Jim and Leo Miller; five sisters, Una Bedford, Anna Taylor, Emma Rutherford, Margaret Harlan and Lila Miller; and a son-in-law, Richard N. Bodkins.

Mrs. Phillips attended the one-room Fairhope School in Jimtown. She was a cook at Norton School for many years and was a homemaker. She was a member of Phillips Chapel Church in Jimtown.

Funeral Arrangements: Friends will be received at Lohr-barb-vance Funeral Home today from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be in the funeral home chapel Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Leon Hevener and the Rev. Donald L. Lockhart officiating. Interment will follow in Phillips Cemetery in Jimtown.
