The Rev. Lloyd William Tenney, 88, of Tallmansville, passed away Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, at the United Hospital Center in Clarksburg.

He was born Feb. 6, 1915, the son of Samuel Bethuel and Nora Butcher Tenney

He is survived by his wife, Macie Mills Tenney, whom he married April 11, 1936.

Also surviving are six children, Bettie Tenney Bailey and husband, Thomas, of Tallmansville, Mildred Tenney Echard and husband, Warren, of Beverly, Noel W. Tenney of Tallmansville, Neil W. Tenney and wife, Precilla, of Vienna, Donnie R. Tenney and wife, Nadine, of Tallmansville, and Bonnie Tenney Miller and husband, Bill, of Philippi; five grandchildren, Gary and Bryan Bailey of Buckhannon, Katrina Tenney Christ and husband, Ronnie, of Vienna, Rosalin Echard Arbogast of Beverly, and Stephanie Tenney Ward and husband, S.D., of Buckhannon.

Three great-grandchildren, Sabrina and Olivia Christ of Vienna and Leah Arbogast of Beverly, also survive.

He is also survived by three sisters, Flora Tenney Riggs, Leila Tenney Ours and Delphia Hilton Tenney Mason.

He was preceded in death by one grandson, Chadwick Dustin Smallridge, and two half sisters, Zona Tenney Carter and Lula Tenney Reed.

The Rev. Tenney joined the Tallmansville Baptist Church on July 4, 1949, and was ordained as an American Baptist minister of the gospel by that church on July 13, 1950.

He served many churches throughout central West Virginia, including the Ten Mile Baptist Church, faithfully for more than 50 years. He was also pastor of the Tallmansville, Sago, Mt. Pleasant in Arlington, and Providence in Holly Grove, all Baptist churches in Upshur County; Churchville and Mt. Zion Baptist churches in Lewis County; Pickens Baptist Church in Randolph County; Bethany Baptist Church in Hall in Barbour County; and Indian Fork Baptist Church in Doddridge County. He also ministered at the South Buckhannon Union Mission Church.

The Rev. Tenney was also a popular school bus driver for more than 25 years in the Upshur County school system.

Viewing will be held Thursday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. His body will lie in state from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the funeral home on Friday with services at 11 a.m. The Revs. Mark Davis, Robert Poling, Billie Scott Mick, Michael Wamsley, Bradley Tenney and Weese Day will officiate. Burial will be at the Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church at Tallmansville. The Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. From 8 Oct 2003.
