Loretta Byrd, age 80 years, a resident of Elkins, passed away Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at her home under the care of Mountain Hospice. She was born February 1, 1941 at Bemis, WV, a daughter of the late James and Mona Nelson Triplett. On April 6, 1958 at Elkins, she was married to Richard L. Byrd, Sr., who preceded her in death May 29, 1986. She is survived by two sons, Mark A. and Joshua C. Byrd of Elkins; five daughters, Kimberly Wymer of Junior, Jane Gibson-Roseberry of Windham, OH, Anita Kelley and Bernice Becker of Montrose and Karen Channell of Elkins; one brother, Dave Triplett of Charleston, WV and one sister, Jimmie Jo Simmons of Buckhannon, WV. Seventeen grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren also survive. Also preceding her in death was one son, Richard L. Byrd, Jr.; one daughter, Tina M. Shaffer; three brothers, William, Sidney, Wayne, and John Triplett and three sisters, Drexie Conley, Dottie Cromer and Tammy Weese. Loretta was a homemaker and attended the First Baptist Church of Elkins.
Friends may call from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Sunday, December 12, 2021 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Monday, December 13th from the funeral home chapel. Rev. Linda Roberts will officiate and interment will follow in the Mountain State Memorial Gardens near Gilman. Masks and social distancing is recommended for those attending the services. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Loretta Byrd.
