Louise Lorraine Kittle, 81, a resident of Elkins, passed away Thursday evening, Jan. 31, 2013, in Hospice Care Regional Inpatient Center in Elkins.

She was born June 18, 1931, at Nutter Fort, a daughter of the late Willis Lee and Geraldine Scheitlin McCollam.

She was married to Donald Raymond Kittle, who preceded her in death Sept. 12, 1980.

Surviving are one son, Michael Kittle of Elkins; four daughters, Melody Cummings and husband, Tom, of Winfield, Vicky Humphrey and husband, Larry, of Fairmont, Debra Rowe and husband, Frank, of Clinton, Ohio, and Kelley Mammarella and husband, Tony, of Ellicott City, Md. Three brothers, Willis “Bill” McCollam, John McCollam and Donald McCollam, all of Elkins; five sisters, Delores Joan Comer of Elkins, Betty Jean Lemieux of Rhode Island, Donna Cochran of Philippi, Geraldine “Pooch” Rosencrance of Elkins and Patricia Ann Coen of Elkins; and 14 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren also survive.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Jim McCollam; and a grandson, Matthew Allen Rowe.

Following graduation from High School, Mrs. Kittle was offered a scholarship to attend college and was later employed as a secretary by Judge Robert E. Maxwell. She had a compassion for animals and was known in Elkins as the “Duck Lady.” She fed stray animals and would walk miles to feed them. She would give to any creature in need and be enthusiastic to do so, and she always believed angels were always with her.

Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. today at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Dr. Basil A. Hensley officiating. Interment will follow in American Legion’s Little Arlington Cemetery at Cravensdale.
