Loy C. McAtee, 93, a former resident of Waneta, Webster County and for the past forty years a resident of Huttonsville passed from this life on Tuesday June 25, 2013 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. He was born Sunday June 13, 1920 in Waneta, Webster Springs a son of the late Albert Harrison McAtee and Gertie Mae Hamrick McAtee. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. On May 3, 1945 he was married in Buckhannon WV to the late Katheryn A. Liggett McAtee who preceded him in death on April 7, 2011 they had celebrated sixty-five years of marriage. Loy along with his wife had operated the post office, store, taxi cab service and filling station at Waneta Webster County for twenty eight years and later was owner/operator of the Huttonsville Exxon in Huttonsville WV for eighteen years. Loy was very active in the community and served on the Huttonsville Public Service District Board for thirty years, the Huttonsville Correctional Parole Board, Randolph County Health Department Board and the Randolph County Development Authority. Loy served in the United States Army in World War II and was stationed in New Guinea. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Ribbon with a bronze star and good conduct medal, and two overseas bars. Others left to cherish Loy’s memories are two sons Eugene McAtee and wife Kandi, of Mill Creek, Paul McAtee and wife Louise, of Beverly one daughter Mary Marcum, of Huttonsville three sister-in-laws Helena Liggett, of Elkins, Nellie Liggett of Huttonsville and Emily Liggett of Hilo HI. Fourteen grandchildren Christina M. Brady of Hampton VA, Kasey D. Andrews of Richmond VA, Justin C. McAtee of Huttonsville, Paul David McAtee II of Daytona Beach Fl, Neena Walls of Clarksburg, Paula A McAtee, Michael D. McAtee, Emily L. McAtee of Beverly, Robert Lee McAtee II, Rodney Lynn McAtee, Bradley Shaun McAtee, Jennifer L. McAtee of Huttonsville, Katheryn E. Marcum and Teena L. Marcum of Huttonsville. Eleven great grand- children, Grace E. Brady, Abigail E. Brady, Mark Alexander Andrews, Alexis McAtee, Noah Bradley McAtee, Braden Carus McAtee, Bentley Allen Walls, Somer Jo McAtee, Landon Robert McAtee, Tyler Lynn McAtee and Madalynn McAtee. Two daughters in laws Margie McAtee and Caffey McAtee and one special friend Shirley Bosley, and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were two sons, Loy Earl McAtee, Robert Lee McAtee Sr, one daughter Emily V. McAtee, three brothers Eslie McAtee, Forrest McAtee and Ernest McAtee. Sister-in-laws Pattie Laderach, Mary B. Liggett and Ilene McAtee, Doris McAtee, brother in laws, James Liggett, Barrett Lee Liggett, Kenneth Wadahara, and Ernest Laderach. Loy attended the schools of Point Mountain WV, was a member of the Elks Lodge in Elkins WV, Randolph County Senior Center, American Legion a Charter Member of the Webster Springs VFW and the Elkins Order of the Odd Fellows. He was a member of the Tygart Valley Presbyterian Church in Huttonsville where he was a charter member and was the oldest living lifetime elder in the church. Visitation will be at the Randolph Funeral Home and Cremation Services on Sunday from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. During visitation, the Elkins Order of the Odd Fellows will conduct a ritualistic service. On Monday Loy will be moved to the Tygart Valley Presbyterian Church where friends may call from Noon to 2:00 PM the funeral hour. The Reverend JoAnne Glaser and Pastor Frank Stanley will officiate and interment will follow at the Brick Church Cemetery in Huttonsville where full military honors will be accorded by members of the H.W. Daniels Post #29, American Legion, the Tygarts Valley Post #3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the WV Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to the Tygart Valley Presbyterian Church, Huttonsville WV 26273 in Loy’s honor.
