Lucy Eva Miller Harlan, 78, a lifelong resident of the Jimtown community, departed this life Thursday morning, April 11, 2002, in Davis Memorial Hospital.

She was born Oct. 7, 1923, at Jimtown, a daughter of the late Ward A. Miller and Margaret Phillips Miller.

On Dec. 8, 1940, at Elkins, she was married to George Duard Harlan, who preceded her in death on Dec. 18, 1984.

Surviving are 13 children: seven daughters, Carolyn Elmore and husband, Carl, Jimtown, Mary Ann Hodgkiss and husband, Edward, Glenwood, Md., Mildred “Midge” Thompson and husband, Roger, Elkins, Brenda Currence and husband, Dennis, Tallmansville, Linda Biller and husband, Cecil Doug, Kerens, Barbara Sams and husband, Michael, Parkersburg, and Patti Hodgkiss and husband, Larry, Woodbine, Md.; six sons, William “Bill” Harlan and wife, Dorothy, Adolph, Richard Harlan and wife, Terry, Jimtown, Kenneth “Kenny” Harlan and wife, Doretta, Cassity, Dale Harlan and wife, Anna, Jimtown, Bert Harlan and wife, Mary, Junior, and James “Jim” Harlan and wife, Sandy, Jimtown; 31 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and three sisters-in-law, Leota Miller, Jimtown, Jocelyn Akers, Charleston, and Pauline Bennett, Rockledge, Fla.; and one brother-in-law, Donald Harlan and wife, Sadie, Elkins.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by one grandson, Anthony Harlan; one infant daughter, six sisters, Una Bedford, Lillie Phillips, Margaret Harlan, Anna Taylor, Emma Rutherford and Lila Miller; and six brothers, Harry, Earl, Paul, Clarence, Jim and Leo Miller.

Mrs. Harlan attended the schools of Randolph County. She was a homemaker and a member of Phillips Chapel United Methodist Church at Jimtown.

Friends will be received at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.

On Monday, Mrs. Harlan will be moved to Phillips Chapel Church at Jimtown, where friends may call from noon to 2 p.m., the funeral hour.

The Rev. Leon Hevener and the Rev. Donald L. Lockhart will officiate and interment will follow at Phillips Cemetery at Jimtown.
