Mabel “Frances” Hedrick Bennett, 81, a resident of Durbin, passed from this life Friday, May 2, 2014 at home surrounded by family. Frances was born Friday, January 20, 1933 in Elkins, a daughter of the late Frank Hedrick and Georgia Persinger Hedrick. On August 30, 1947 she married Frank Bennett who preceded her in death in 1971. Left to cherish Frances’ memory are six children, Sheila Rexrode of Durbin, James Bennett and wife Valinda of Frank, Frank Bennett Jr. and wife Terry of Huttonsville, Kimberly Rugemer and husband Kevin of Elkins, Donna Nicely and husband Don of Surry, VA and Linda Carr of Montrose, one brother, William Hedrick and wife Glenda and one sister, Ocie Rosier, all of Elkins, ten grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Preceding Frances in death besides her parents and husband were four brothers, Roscoe, David, James and Grover and three sisters, Katherine, Ruth and Ella. Frances attended the schools of Randolph County. Prior to moving back to WV she made her home in Millers, MD. Frances was a member of the Red Hat Society and attended the Rebecca Lodge. She loved to collect Indians, play Skipbo and Dominoes and was a superb cook that fed many. Before moving to Durbin, Frances lived in the Tygart Valley Apartments in Elkins and enjoyed a closed knit group of friends. She was Baptist by faith and had been attending Bethel United Methodist Church of Durbin. Frances will always live in the hearts of many and be remembered for all the good things she did for everyone. A graveside service will be held Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Noon in the Bennett Family Cemetery in Frank and interment will follow. The Reverend Gary Phillips will officiate. The family suggests that contributions may be made in memory of Frances to Mountain Hospice 1002 S. Crim Ave Belington, WV 26250.
