Malvern F. Beck, 68, a former resident of Parsons and a more recent resident of Cortland Acres Nursing Home in Thomas, departed this life early Monday morning, Oct. 20, 2003, at the nursing home. He had been in declining health and death was attributed to complications of Alzheimer’s disease.

He was born Dec. 15, 1934, in Parsons, the son of the late David Palmer Beck and Gertrude Hebb Beck.

He never married.

Surviving are one sister, Margaret “Skeeter” Slater of Riverside, Calif.; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Burdette.

Malvern attended the schools of Uniontown, Pa. He worked for the former E.J. Price Grocery and Feed, the former Shirley’s Restaurant and Flossie’s Restaurant, all of Parsons.

He was an avid bicycle enthusiast and had a great love for radios and country music, and loved animals.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home in Parsons from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today. On Wednesday afternoon, Mr. Beck will be moved to the Parsons City Cemetery for a graveside service at 2 p.m. Pastor Allen D. Crosten will officiate and interment will follow.
