Marcus J. Metzgar 1921-2002Q Obituary

Marcus J. Metzgar, 80, of Holbrook Nursing Home in Buckhannon, and formerly of Crawford, died Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002, in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Buckhannon.

He was born Sept. 25, 1921, in Mt. Clare, a son of the late Homer D. Metzgar Sr. and Opal Crawford Metzgar.

On July 8, 1944, he married Merle Powers Metzgar, who preceded him in death on Oct. 23, 1985.

Surviving are one son, Joseph Mark Metzgar of Crawford; one daughter, Mrs. Gary (Pamela) Turner of Jane Lew; one sister, Mrs. Ray (VeraLee) Hedrick, Riverdale, Md.; one brother, Roy Metzgar of Frenchburg, Ky.; five grandchildren, Mrs. Gary (Janice) Collins, Roanoke, William J. Metzgar and Jennifer A. Metzgar, both of Crawford, Jamie A. Turner and Chad Turner, both of Jane Lew; one great-grandchild, Presley Turner, Jane Lew; and one stepgreat-grandchild, Mindy Collins, Roanoke.

He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Teresa Dawn Turner; one brother, Homer Metzgar Jr.; and one sister, MaryLee Hedrick.

He attended Straight Fork United Methodist Church. He retired from Ralph Harper Lumber Co.

Friends will be received at Alkire Funeral Chapel today from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be in the funeral home chapel Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Charlene Hamrick officiating. Interment will follow in Wimer Cemetery at Straight Fork
