MARGARET JUNE TALBOTT WARD, age 91 years, a resident of Elkins, WV departed this life Thursday evening June 10, 2010 at the Hospice Care Regional Inpatient Center at Elkins.

She was born Saturday, June 22, 1918 at Berryburg, near Philippi, WV, a daughter of the late Floyd Talbott and Mollie Leach Talbott. On November 25, 1948 at Philippi, she was married to Waldo Triplett Ward, who precedes her in death.

Surviving are two sons, Terry Lee Ward and wife Cheryl, Pittsburgh, Larry Lynn Ward, Elkins; four grandchildren, Nathan, Chandra, Michelle and Brad, whom she helped raise; and five great grandchildren.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by one son, Waldo “Wally” Triplett Ward, Jr.; and one sister, Helen Sarah Stalnaker.

She was a graduate of Philippi High School with the Class of 1936. Following graduation, she was employed as a News Reporter for the former Philippi Republican Newspaper and later became the News Editor for the Barbour Democrat. She reported for five other newspapers of the area, The West Virginian, The Fairmont Times, The Clarksburg Exponent-telegram, The Randolph Enterprise and The Elkins Inter Mountain and two radio stations in the Elkins vicinity for over thirty years. In 1968, she was employed by the County of Randolph, serving as Deputy Circuit Clerk for twenty one years. She owned and operated the Countryside Gift Shop for forty three years. Mrs. Ward was a candle maker, gardener and a flower designer. Along with her husband, they owned and operated the Crystal Springs Dairy Farm, which was the largest dairy in Randolph Co for twelve years. And for ten years, it was the largest in Central West Virginia. The community of Crystal Springs was named after the farm.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6 to 8 PM. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at 2 PM. The Rev. Dr. Basil Hensley will officiate and interment will follow at the Maplewood Cemetery at Elkins. .
