MARGARET VICTORIA PEG IRWIN 1924-2010 Obituary

MARGARET VICTORIA “PEG” IRWIN, age 86 years, a resident of Elkins, WV departed this life Saturday morning, October 16, 2010 at Valentine’s Personal Care Home at Elkins, WV

She was born Saturday, July 5, 1924 at Elkins, WV a daughter of the late John Henry Irwin and Mabel Simmons Irwin. She had never married. Surviving are three brothers, Fred L. Irwin and wife Mary Lou, Elkins; Gary C. Irwin and wife Rosemary, Hinton, WV; James Marshall Irwin and wife Frances, Charlotte, NC; thirteen nieces, five nephews, fourteen great nieces; eighteen great nephews, two great great nieces; three great great nephews and two special caregivers, Patty Simmons and Frances Bennett.

Preceding her in death are three brothers, Coach Robert Stark “Bob” Irwin; William J. “Bill” Irwin and John K. Irwin.

She was a graduate of Elkins High School with the Class of 1942, and graduated from nursing school in Illinois. She was a Cadet Nurse during World War II and worked for the Coatsville Veterans Administration Hospital in Philadelphia, PA for thirty-two years, retiring in 1979. She later worked at Nella’s Nursing Home, was a volunteer nurse for the Elkins-randolph County Senior Center and was a volunteer at the former Memorial General Hospital Gift Shoppe. She was a member of the Elkins-randolph County Senior Center and was an avid reader.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 6 to 8 PM, Tuesday. Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel, Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at 1:30 PM. Pastor James Marshall Irwin will officiate and interment will follow at the Maplewood Cemetery at Elkins, WV. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the Elkins-randolph County Senior Center, P. O. Box 727, Elkins, WV 26241-0727 or to the Elkins-randolph County Public Library, 416 Davis Avenue, Elkins, WV 26241.
