MARIE DOROTHY BENNETT BALL 1920-2010 Obituary

MARIE DOROTHY BENNETT BALL, age 89 years, a resident of Parsons, WV departed this earth, Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at Nella’s Incorporated at Crystal Springs.

She was born Monday, September 10, 1920 at Parsons, WV, the oldest of five children born to the late Robert D. Bennett and Bertha Flanagan Bennett. Marie married Floyd Ball, Jr., when she was 17 and in 1939 gave birth to a daughter, Phyllis Marie. During World War II, Marie worked in a San Francisco shipyard while Floyd served in the U. S. Navy and was stationed in Okinawa. When he returned home, Marie became a homemaker. In 1953 Marie and Floyd adopted an infant daughter, Cindy Lynn, and raised her as their own. For several years the family lived in various locations in Pennsylvania while Floyd worked as a carpenter, but when Floyd was diagnosed in the late 1960’s with Lou Gehrig’s disease, they returned to Parsons, where Marie became an active member of the Parsons Church of the Nazarene. After Floyd’s death in 1971, Marie remained in Parsons until it became medically necessary for her in 2006 to change her residence to Nella’s Incorporated in Elkins.

Marie is predeceased by her daughter Phyllis, but her daughter Cindy, who graduated from Parsons High School in 1971, is currently an Associate Dean and Professor at Rowan University, Glassboro, NJ.

Also surviving are one sister, Jean Miller and husband Jason, of Parsons, WV; seven grandchildren: Christine, Kirk, Ben Clifford, Kenneth, and Keith Kittler; Chance Doane, and Elizabeth Romeo; several great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews, five of whom reside in the Parsons area: Helen Harris, John Bennett, Jane Leard, Robin Plum Wetzel, and Louis Putzulo, Jr.

Also preceding her in death is one brother, Wallace C. Bennett, and two sisters, Velma Putzulo and Helen Bennett.

A Graveside Service will be held Friday, September 3, 2010 at 11 AM at the Parsons City Cemetery. Pastor Robert Leard will officiate and interment will follow. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to All Creatures Great and Small, in care of Tucker County Cats, 801 North Randolph Avenue, Elkins, WV 26241.
