Marvin Nelson Jake Iden 1912-2002 Obituary

Marvin Nelson “Jake” Iden, 90, of 98 Chestnut St., Buckhannon, died Sunday Oct. 20, 2002, at 10:10 a.m. in Monongalia General Hospital in Morgantown.

He was born July 9, 1912, in Davis, a son of the late N.S. and Betty Simmons Iden.

On Aug. 1, 1952, he married Delma Gainer Iden, who survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Cindy Caperton, Morgantown, and Cathy and husband, Kip Becker, Boston, Mass.; two brothers, Richard Iden and wife, Anna Belle, Charlotte, N.C., and Robert Iden and wife, Evilee, Lehigh Acres, Fla.; one grandson, Hugh Caperton, Charleston; one sister-in-law, Katherine Iden, Buckhannon; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, C. Fred Iden and Irvin Iden; and three sisters, Audra Evans, Nellie Iden Minney and Josie Iden.

He was a long time resident of Buckhannon, where he lived with his wife, Delma. He saw two great milestones this past summer, his 90th birthday and his 50th wedding anniversary. He was a graduate of Davis High School. He was also a graduate of Potomac State College, where he was a member of the basketball team that played in the first West Virginia state tournament. He was a captain in the Army Aircorps during World War II. Later he owned Iden Buick Co. in Philippi for 28 years before retiring in 1978. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and served on the administrative board.

Friends will be received at Poling-st. Clair Funeral Home Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. On Wednesday, he will be moved to First United Methodist Church, where friends may call from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., the funeral hour, with the Rev. Dr. Charles Godwin, the Rev. Billee Scott Mick and the Rev. Mary Flynn officiating. Interment will follow in Heavner Cemetery at Buckhannon. The Buckhannon VFW Post 3663 and Frank B. Bartlett Post 7, American Legion will conduct military honors at the graveside.
