Mary Helena “Jim” Tackett Herron Shiflett, 76, a former resident of Mill Creek and a resident of Akron, Ohio, for the past 10 years, passed away at 12:05 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29, 2003, at the Akron General Hospital where she had been a patient for the past week. She had been in failing health for the past two years.

Born May 12, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Hazel Currence Tackett.
She was twice married. Her first husband, James Paul Herron, survives in Easley, S.C. Her second husband preceded her in death.

Surviving are three daughters, Eleanore Fincham and husband, Clyde, of Mogadore, Ohio, Dianna Biggie of Akron, Ohio, and Judy Chiles of Greenville, S.C.; one son, Donald “Duck” Herron, who made his home with his mother; one daughter-in-law, Susan Herron of Belington; five sisters, Ruth Howard of Fairmont, Kathleen Dingley of Baltimore, Md., Tina Croston and husband, Bill, of Valley Bend, Irene Phillips and husband, Bill, of Valley Bend, and Bonnie Rhodes of Mill Creek; and one brother, Lonnie Tackett of Mill Creek.

Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, Clyde Fincham Jr., Jeffrey Fincham, Kristina Biggie, Dicky Biggie, James Biggie, Eddie Workman, Samantha Workman, Calvin Herron Jr., Missy Herron and Matthew Herron; 21 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death was one son, Calvin Herron; one sister, Lina Taylor; and two brothers, Frank and Robert Tackett.

Mary attended Tygarts Valley High School and was formerly employed at Bata Shoe Co., Reidbord and Nella’s, and retired from Snowshoe in housekeeping in 1983.

Mary liked to play bingo. She loved to hunt and fish and enjoyed arts and crafts.

She was a member of the Mill Creek Memorial Mission Church and the Randolph County Senior Center.

Friends will be received at the F.E. Runner Funeral Home Chapel after 6 p.m. Thursday. On Friday, Mrs. Shiflett will be moved to the Mill Creek Memorial Mission Church for visitation from noon until 1 p.m., the funeral hour. The Rev. Frank Long and the Rev. Randy Long, pastors of the church, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Brick Church Cemetery in Huttonsville. The F.E. Runner Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Mary Helena “Jim” Tackett Herron Shiflett.
