Mary Long Davis 1910-2002 Obituary

Mary Long Davis, 92, a resident of Cortland Acres Nursing Home at Thomas, departed this life Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 12, 2002, at the nursing home. She had been in declining health and death was attributed to a stroke.

She was born Feb. 17, 1910, at Otter Creek, a daughter of the late Abel Norman Long and Boena Teter Long.

On Nov. 5, 1929, she was married to Guy George Davis, who preceded her in death on Nov. 9, 1984.

Surviving are two sons, Junior H. Davis and wife, Annie Evadot, of Hendricks, and Verl A. “Nubby” Davis and wife, Elsie, Parsons; five grandchildren, Arthur “Punk” Davis and wife, Eva, of Hambleton, Vickie Hedrick of Location Road, Barbara Dearborn and husband, Calvin, of Huddleston, Va., Kathy Hovatter and husband, Richard, of St. George, and V.J. Davis and wife, Angie, of Fairmont; nine great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by five brothers, Riley Long, Paul Long, Joe Long, Okey Long and Ora Long; three sisters, Cora Phillips, Texie Carr and Lillie Grady; and one granddaughter, Susan J. Hershman.

She attended the one-room school at Otter Creek. She was a member of the Parsons Church of God and was a homemaker.

The family will receive friends at Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor Friday at 11 a.m. Pastor Eli Hostetler will officiate and interment will follow in Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons. The Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
