Mary Lynne Carrington Smith 1943-2002 Obituary

Mary Lynne Carrington-smith, 59, of Vancouver, British Columbia, departed this life Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, at United General Hospital in Burlington, Wash.

She was born May 8, 1943, in Buckhannon, a daughter of Macel Green Gear of Elkins, and the late Simon N. Harris.

She attended Bergoo Elementary School, where her mother taught for many years. She graduated from Cap Charles High School, Cape Charles, Va. in 1961. She attended Davis & Elkins College in Elkins, prior to getting married. She returned to school in 1978, graduating with Magna Cum Laude honors from Mississippi University of Women in Colombus, Miss.

She is survived by her mother, Macel “Mitzi” Green Gear, Elkins; her husband, Charles Carrington-smith, Vancouver, British Columbia; her daughter, Mary Margaret “Meg” Wilfong Schramm; a son-in-law, Robert Schramm; a grandson, Dylan Schramm, all of Houston, Texas; her son, David Nieal Wilfong, Dallas, Texas; a brother, John K. “Donnie” Mann, Annapolis, Md.; and a sister, Janice M. Mann, Rehoboth Beach, Del.

Preceding her in death was her father, Simon N. Harris, in 1946.

She was a devoted mother, daughter, wife and sister. She leaves behind many extended family members.

She was a noted writer and editor. She owned The Rockwall Chronicle Newspaper in Rockwall, Texas. She and her son, David, worked together for many years building the business. She was honored with Woman of the Year by Soroptimist International of Rockwall, texas.

A memorial service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Elkins. Love gifts in the memory of Mary Lynne may be sent to the First United Methodist Church, 315 Kerens Ave., Elkins.
