Mary Mae Elza, age 72 years, a resident of Elkins, passed away Saturday, March 19, 2011 at her residence. Death was attributed to heart disease which she had battled for many decades. She was born November 13, 1938 in Elkins a daughter of the late Margie and Warren Currence. Surviving are her children, Theresa Ends and husband Paul, Elkins, Michael Elza and wife Tonya and Kevin Elza and wife Tammie, grandchildren, Kari Shahan, Adam Elza, Kassi Elza, Michael Elza, Christopher Elza and Elizabeth Elza, great grandchildren, Austin Simmons, Brian Simmons Miller, Ciara Shahan and Dominic Koontz, one brother, Alton “Jughead” Currence and wife Bonnie, Lancaster, OH, one sister, Janet Hensil and husband Tom, Elkins, her nieces and nephews, Chris Storrick, Jeff and Brent Currence and their children. She loved her dog, Dakota very much and special friends, Randy Simmons and Neal Sacks as well as other numerous friends. Also preceding her in death was one grandson, Justin M. Elza.

Mary worked for many years, at Appalachian Community Health Center but the cornerstone of her life was her family. She put family first in her life and if anyone thought differently, she would be the first to tell people that family should come first, especially children. She was the best mother, grandmother and great grandmother that anyone could ask for and her family’s thoughts and expressions show that. Mary always put other peoples thoughts and feelings first, especially her children. Mary loved going shopping and visiting Harrisonburg and Staunton, VA. Mary loved life and the people in her life and showed it all the time with her dry sense of humor

At the request of the deceased, her remains will be cremated. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A service of remembrance will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Dr. Marvin L. Parli officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Hospice, 1600 Crim Ave., Belington, WV. 26251 or to the Randolph County Humane Society, PO Box 785, Elkins, WV 26241 in memory of Mary. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Mary Mae Elza.
