Mary Marie Murphy 1925-2010 Obituary

MARY MARIE MURPHY Mary Marie Murphy, 84, of Rt. #5, Buckhannon, died Wednesday morning, May 5, at the home of her daughter, in Walker, W.Va. She was born August 19, 1925, at Lost Creek, W.Va., a daughter of the late Alonzo and Madge (Wetzel) Malcolm. On September 27, 1941, she was married to Hoy Russell Murphy, who preceded her in death on May 28, 1995. Survivors include, two daughters, Mary Ann Murphy Rohr, Walker, Linda Sue Murphy Gemmill, and husband, John, Phoenix, Ariz.; one son, Hoy R. Murphy Jr. And wife, Mary Beth, Cross Lanes; three sisters, Eva Layman, in Fla., Virginia Fox and husband, Don, Akron, Oh., Geraldine Gillis and husband, Gerald, Volga; four brothers, James Malcolm and wife, Polly, Newton Falls, Oh., Donald Malcolm and wife, Charlene, Ronald Malcolm and wife, Ilene, Charles Malcolm and wife, Elizabeth, all of Buckhannon; eight grandchildren, Jeff W. Rohr, Patrick R. Murphy, Michele Rohr Molyneaux, Heather Rohr Riser, Suzanna Rohr Gabsch, Sarah Gemmill Seahorn, Rachel Gemmill, Erin Murphy; six great grandchildren, Taj Z. Rohr, Matthew J. Rohr, Eric Rohr, James Seahorn, Mary Seahorn, and Abigail Riser. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Betty Maditz and by two brothers, Arley Lee Wetzel and Irvin Wetzel. Mrs. Murphy was a homemaker and was a member of the Reger United Methodist Church and the Women of Christ. She was a gifted seamstress and enjoyed Southern Gospel Music. She was an avid vegetable and flower gardener and possessed the “gift of hospitality”. Mrs. Murphy was especially loved by her grandchildren and great grandchildren and was known as the “Rock of the Family”. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, May 9, from the Stemple & Forman Funeral Home, 385 So. Main Street, Philippi. John Gemmill will officiate and interment will follow in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 3:00 until 7:00 P.M. on Saturday and from 9:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M., the funeral hour, on Sunday. The Stemple & Forman Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
