MARY OPAL MARTENY Mary Opal Marteny, 88, a resident of Belington, formerly of Rt. #1, Moatsville, went to be with her Heavenly Savior on Monday morning, October 18, from the Barbour County Good Samaritan Center, following an extended illness. She was born September 2, 1922, at Moatsville, a daughter of the late George Washington and Anise Dale (Poe) Poling. On April 29, 1944, she was married to Francis Arnold Marteny, who preceded her in death on March 25, 1970. Survivors include, one daughter, Nancy Bolyard and husband, Francis, Elkins; three sons, Darris Marteny and wife Rachel, Perryopolis, Pa., Richard Marteny and Cindy, Philippi, Arnold Marteny and wife Teresa, Belington; nine grandchildren, Darris Jr. Marteny, Kristy Dawn Biswas, Rodney Bolyard, Shawn Bolyard, Shana Triplett, Marissa Marteny, Ian Marteny, Jason Marteny and Darren Marteny; two step-grandchildren, Kimberly Roberts and Bethany Puffinburger; nine great grandchildren; five step-great grandchildren and three step-great great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by five sisters, Flossie Poling, Flora Barrett, Bonnie Wilson, Perlina J. Freeman and Dora D. Hathaway and by three brothers, Bill Poling, Andrew Poling and Willard Poling and by a special nephew, Andy Nestor. Mrs. Marteny was a homemaker who was an avid gardener and enjoyed canning the fruits of her labor. She was a member of the Souls Harbor Tabernacle and visited the Crystal Springs Community Church. She also enjoyed singing. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, October 21, from the Stemple & Forman Funeral Home, 385 South Main Street, Philippi. The Rev. Bill Lanham and Pastor David Collins will officiate and interment will follow in the Walnut Grove Cemetery at Webster. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2:00 until 9:00 P.M. on Wednesday and from 9:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M., the funeral hour, on Thursday. The Stemple & Forman Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
