Maureen L. Vandevander, age 73 years, a resident of Kerens, WV, passed away Monday, October 4, 2021 at Broaddus Hospital in Philippi, WV. She was born May 10, 1948 at Dailey, a daughter of the late Lester J. and Mary Ware Kyle. On July 31, 1998 at Kerens, she was married to Benny Jay Vandevander who survives. Also surviving is one son, Michael Vandevander of Dover, Delaware; one daughter, Debra Lawrence of Belington; two brothers, James Kyle of Dailey and Lester Kyle of Florida. One sister, Libby Licwov of Dailey. Four grandchildren, two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Also preceding her in death was two sons, Dale and Chadwick Switzer; one grandson, Noah Vandevander; five sisters, Retha Welch, Lorraine Pritt, Darlene Lewis, Phyllis Wildman and Alice Gladfelter and one brother, Tim Kyle. Maureen attended the schools of Randolph County and was an employee of the Elkins Mountain School. She was a member of the Irons Chapel United Methodist Church.
Friends may call from 5:00 pm until 7:30 pm Thursday, October 7, 2021 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 7:30 pm Thursday from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Justin Jones officiating. Maureen’s request for cremation will then be honored. Masks and social distancing will be required for anyone attending the service for Maureen. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 in memory of Maureen. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Maureen Lee Vandevander.
