Joy “Maxine” Burns Carr, 73 of Hendricks, died Nov. 25 at Davis Memorial Hospital, Elkins. She had been in declining health and death was attributed to complications of diabetes.

Born Jan. 18, 1928 at Hendricks, she was a daughter of the late William A. and Lula White Burns. On March 29, 1947, at Oakland, she was married to Robert Stanley Carr, who survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Joyce Elaine (and Kenny) Knotts, Dunbar and Sandra Kay (and Gene) George, Elkins, a sister Betty S. Carr, Canton, OH, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Shirlene Murray and a brother, Robert G. Burns.

She was a 1946 graduate of Parsons High School, a member of the Pentecostal Church of God at Rosendorf where was she was the song leader. She was a former employee of Parsons Footwear.

She was a gospel songwriter, having written 86 songs of which 55 were copyrighted. She was a homemaker.

Friends were received at Barb-Greenlief Funeral Home where final rites will be held today, Wednesday, Nov. 28 at 11 am. Pastors Floyd Carr, Kenneth Knotts and Mike Wamsley will officiate and interment will follow at McNeeley Cemetery.
