Melvin Junior Arbogast, 80, a lifelong resident of Valley Head, passed away Monday, July 7, 2003, at 3:56 p.m. in Ruby Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient since Saturday.

He was born Jan. 14, 1923, at Valley Head, a son of the late Calvin and Myrtle Louk Arbogast.

On Dec. 15, 1941, he was united in marriage to the former Virginia Belle Bodkins, who preceded him in death on Jan. 4, 2000.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Russell (Sue) McCrobie of Dailey, and Twila Wamsley of Valley Head; one son and daughter-in-law, Phillip Arbogast and wife, Rose, of Core; one son-in-law, Terry Wamsley of Mingo; one brother, Donald Arbogast of Valley Head; three half brothers, Joe Arbogast of Elkwater, John Arbogast of Valley Head, and Jimmy Arbogast of Alabama; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and one on the way; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death besides his parents and wife were two infant twin sons, Mitchell and Michael Arbogast; and one granddaughter, Nadine McCrobie.

He was a graduate of Tygarts Valley High School. He was employed as a union coal miner for Island Creek Coal Mines retiring in 1974.

He was a lover of dogs, having purchased several show dogs after they were retired. He also raised dogs including walkers and curs.

He was an avid hunter and loved to garden. He was a Protestant by faith.

Friends will be received at F.E. Runner Funeral Home Chapel Friday from noon until 2 p.m., the funeral hour. The Rev. Ralph Summerfield, pastor of the Blue Rock Union Mission Church, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Valley Head Cemetery in Valley Head. The F.E. Runner Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Melvin Junior Arbogast.
