Michael James Butcher, 50, a resident of Elkins, passed from this life early Wednesday morning, September 24, 2014 in his home. He was in his usual health and death was attributed to cardiac arrest. Michael was born Thursday, May 28, 1964 in Elkins a son of the late Kenneth Dirus Butcher, Sr. and Geraldine Smith Butcher Cottrell. On August 22, 1997 in Highland County, VA, he was married to the former Sarah Jane White, who survives. Also left to cherish his memory are his three daughters, Jennifer Loren Miller and husband, Ashley of Petersburg, Emily MaKayla Butcher, and Morgan MacKenzie Butcher, both of Elkins, two sisters, Connie Cottrell of Elkins and Susie Lambert and husband, Richard of Bemis, one brother, Terry Butcher and wife, Ashley of Elkins, two grandchildren, Hunter Miller and Bentlee Miller of Petersburg, seven nieces and nephews, and one great niece. Preceding Michael in death besides his parents was one brother, Kenneth Dirus Butcher, Jr., his grandmother, Connie Vance, and his step granddad, Bruce Vance. Michael attended the schools of Randolph County, and had worked at Miller’s Used Cars for many years. He enjoyed hunting, camping, and really enjoyed tinkering with cars. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Visitation will be held at the Randolph Funeral Home on Friday, September 26, from 6 until 8pm. Michael’s request for cremation will then be honored.
