Nancy Jane Johnson Neale, 65, of 296 Bethany Church Road, Spartanburg, S.C., and a former resident of Elkins, went to be with the Lord on Monday evening, Oct. 14, 2002, at Camp Care Nursing Home. Death was attributed to ALS; however it was unexpected.

She was born Feb. 14, 1937, on the Haddix Road near Elkins, a daughter of the late Lloyd George Johnson and Pearl Dawson Johnson.

She was formerly married to John H. Neale, who survives in Charleston.

Surviving are one son, John Hughes Neale and wife, Valerie, of Moore, S.C.; one daughter, Tracy Neale Anderson and husband, Neil, of Moore, S.C.; three grandsons, John Hughes Neale II and wife, Carrie, Justin S. Neale and Dalton N. Anderson; one granddaughter, Skyler L. Anderson, all of Spartanburg, S.C.; one brother, William C. “Butch” Johnson; and two sisters, Geraldine “Gerry” Barkley and Irene Mosser, all of Elkins; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were one infant sister and one brother.

Mrs. Neale attended the schools of Elkins and was formerly employed at Davis Memorial Hospital and the Memorial General Hospital. She retired from Alcoa Fujikura in South Carolina in January of 2001. She was a past president of the Elkins Jaycettes in 1967-68. She was a member of the Harts Chapel Church at Chenoweth Creek. While residing in Spartanburg, she attended the Anderson Mill Road Baptist Church. She was a loving mother to her children and loved her grandchildren as well.

Friends may call from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Friday at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday from the funeral home chapel with Pastor David Collins officiating. Interment will follow in Elkins Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the ALS Center at Carolina’s Medical Center, PO Box 32861, Charlotte, N.C. 28232-2861.
