Neddie Earl Swecker 1913-2002 Obituary

Neddie Earl Swecker, 88, a former resident of Monterville and Beverly, and a patient in Elkins Regional Convalescent Center, passed away Tuesday evening, May 7, 2002, in Davis Memorial Hospital.

He was born June 1, 1913, at Monterville, a son of the late George Bryan and Vanessa Heavener Swecker.

On June 30, 1937, at Marlinton, he was married to Doris Virginia Shaffer Swecker, who preceded him in death on Feb. 15, 1995.

He is survived by one son, Robert Earl Swecker and wife, Isabell Nethken Swecker, of Beverly; one sister, Willa Swecker Delay of Oxnard, Calif.; three grandchildren, Sabrina Faith, Christina Hope and Matthew David Swecker; and several nieces and nephews.

Also preceding him in death were one brother, Lawrence C. Swecker; and one daughter-in-law, Goldie Dodrill Swecker.

Mr. Swecker was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Company B 798th Military Police Battalion and received the World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the American Theater Ribbon. He was a self-employed farmer, a former member of the USDA and the Farming for Better Living and various other organizations. He attended the Elkins Church of the Nazarene.

Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. today at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Terry Burgess and Pastor Jerry Bush officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. State Memorial Gardens near Gilman, where full military rites will be accorded at the gravesite by members of H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion and Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, West Virginia Affiliate, PO Box 11062, Charleston, W.Va. 25339.
