Nela Pearl Mitchell, 83, of Pleasant Creek, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, in Monongalia General Hospital in Morgantown following an extended illness.

Mrs. Mitchell was born May 30, 1918, in Barbour County, a daughter of the late John Fielden Hathaway and Hattie Beth Shaffer Hathaway.

On Sept. 19, 1935, she married William E. “Wood” Mitchell, who survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Veta Louise Howdyshell and husband, Robert, Webster, and Etha Lucille Adams and husband, Ray, St. George; two sons, Willard Mitchell, Pleasant Creek, and Elwood J. “Jack” Mitchell, Grafton; a sister, Hattie Keller, Philippi; 12 grandchildren, an adopted grandson, 20 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.

Mrs. Mitchell was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Creek United Methodist Church.

Funeral Arrangements: Friends may call at Bartlett Funeral Home, 202 McGraw Ave., Grafton, Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be in the funeral home chapel Wednesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Robert Nichols officiating. Interment will follow in Clemtown Cemetery
