OBITUARY: OLIVER H. “PETE” PHILLIPS Oliver Harmon “Pete” Phillips, of Moatsville, formerly of Parsons, died Friday, November 23, in Mansfield Place, Philippi. He had been in his usual health and his death was unexpected. He was born November 11, 1921, at Thomas, a son of the late Dewey C. And Iva (Helmick) Phillips. In October 1948, he married the former Mary Alice Poling, who survives at Mansfield Place, Philippi. Also surviving are two daughters, Janet Marie Poling and husband, Larry, Moatsville, Lorissa Ann Kincaid and husband, Mark, Anderson, S.C.; two sons, David Oliver Phillips and wife Sharon, Spotsylvania, Va., Ronald Lee Phillips and wife, Joanne, Charlotte, N.C.; five grandchildren, Joy Lee Higgins and husband, Bob, Plymouth, Mass., Sarah Marie Hayes and husband, Ron, Akron, Oh., Benjamin Poling and wife, Trish, Philippi, Jessice Poling, Elizabeth, Tenn., Kayla McCurry, Anderson, S.C.; great grandchildren, Jason and Morgan Poling, Abigail, Isabella and Elijah Hayes. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Angelina Shoemaker and by two brothers, Robert Phillips and Leon Phillips. Mr. Phillips was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army. He was a former delivery driver for Wallace Bakery and Dutch Oven Bakeries and was a former mold maker for Carter Shoe Co. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, November 26, from the Stemple & Forman Funeral Home, 385 So. Main Street, Philippi, W.Va. The Rev. Daniel Linger will officiate and interment will follow in the Sugar Lands Cemetery where Barbour Post #44, American Legion, will confer military rites. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6:00 until 9:00 P.M. on Sunday and from 9:00 until 11:00 A.M., the funeral hour, on Monday. Stemple & Forman Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.
