Oliver Leroy Wingfield 1906-2002

Oliver Leroy Wingfield, 95, a resident of Chenoweth Creek Road, passed away at 12:36 p.m. Sunday, March 17, 2002, in St. Joseph’s Hospital emergency department in Buckhannon.

He was born June 19, 1906, at Kerens, a son of the late Frederick and Ella Messenger Wingfield.

He was twice married. First to Beatrice Wingfield, who preceded him in death in 1952. He later married Georgia Schoonover Wingfield, who survives at Chenoweth Creek.

Also surviving are four sons, Billy Wingfield, Richwood, Ronald Wingfield, Madina, Ohio, Frank Wingfield, Elkins, and Leroy “Lee” Wingfield Jr. of Elkins; four daughters, Donna Bonner and Deena Drain, both of Elkins, Sharon Tustin, Ohio, and Charlotte Johnson of Morgantown; one brother, Henry Wingfield, Hughesville, Pa.; one half brother, Kenneth Wingfield of Valley Bend; two sisters, Violet Hardy, Parsons, and Pearl Stewart of Elkins; one half sister, Ruth Wingfield of Elkins; 27 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Also preceding him in death were one daughter, Marlene Reiss; three brothers, Gar, Walter and Charles Wingfield; two half brothers, Howard and Buddy Wingfield; and one sister, Louise Wingfield.

Mr. Wingfield was employed as a coal miner having retired from Roaring Creek Coal Co.

He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America and attended the Harts Chapel Church at Chenoweth Creek and Abundant Life Christian Center in Beverly.

Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. today at Abundant Life Christian Center in Beverly. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday from the church with the Rev. L. Lowther and Pastor Curlie Ray officiating. Interment will follow in Elkins Memorial Gardens. Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements.
