Opal Mae George Ramsey 1921-2002

Opal Mae George Ramsey, 80, of Valley Bend Road, Belington, died Monday evening, Feb. 4, 2002, at her home. She had been in declining health for quite some time.

Mrs. Ramsey was born Feb. 27, 1921, in Audra community near Belington, a daughter of the late Samuel and Zeta Allen George.

On June 26, 1938, in Belington, she married Brooks H. Ramsey, who preceded her in death on Jan. 7, 1989.

Surviving are a son, Jerry D. Ramsey and wife, Dianna, Belington; a daughter, Donna Jean Jones and husband, Sidney, Belington; two grandsons, Kevin and Tinker Jones, both of Belington; two granddaughters, Crystal Moss and Brenda Bennett, both of Belington; nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, and was preceded in death by all of her siblings.

Mrs. Ramsey attended Laurel Point School near the Audra community and Belington High School. She was a homemaker and formerly a cook at Yeager Restaurant for many years. She was also a member of Hilltoppers Homemakers Club. She was a member of Valley Bend Baptist Church near Belington.

Funeral Arrangements: Friends will be received at Talbott Funeral Home in Belington Thursday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. On Friday, she will be moved to Valley Bend Baptist Church, where friends may call from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., the funeral hour, with the Rev. Leon Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Valley Bend Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to Valley Bend Baptist Church in care of Judy Simpson, Route 2, Box 140B, Belington, W.Va. 26250.
