Orlena Cousino Huffman, 94, of Dry Fork, passed away Saturday, June 25, 2011 at Iveagh Trust, where she had resided since August 2010. She was born February 7, 1917, in Monroe, Michigan, a daughter of the late Lawson and Ruby Trabbic Cousino. Orlena was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Orlena married Richard R. Huffman on October 19, 1940 in Adrain, Michigan. Richard and Orlena were married for 60 years, when he preceded her in death on March 14, 2001. Mrs. Huffman is survived by one son, Terry Huffman and wife, Connie of Harman; one daughter, Tylyn Burgess and husband, David of Elkins; and a special nephew, Charles Hedrick and wife, Rhonda of Seneca Rocks. In addition, she is survived by nine grandchildren: Alan Huffman; Stacy Huffman and wife, Laura; Cindy McDaniels; Teresa Martin and husband, Rutland; Dwight Burgess and wife Linda; Rebecca Judy and husband, Vincent; Darrell Burgess and wife, Cindy; Christina Duesenberry and husband, Derick; Nicole Hedrick; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Huffman was preceded in death by her brothers, Gordon and Clayton Cousino, and one great-grandson, Tyler McDaniels. Orlena and Richard met in Michigan, when Richard moved there to work in the automobile factories. After their marriage, they returned to West Virginia and began a new life on their farm at Dry Fork. Richard and Orlena resided there until Richard’s death. Orlena was an avid homemaker and loving mother to all those who came to her home. There was nothing Orlena enjoyed more than preparing a meal for her family and guests, including her well-known cinnamon rolls and pumpkin pie. Before moving to West Virginia, Orlena worked at the Dime Store in Adrian, Michigan. Orlena loved to crochet, make woven rugs, quilt and work in her garden. Orlena belonged to the Harman Farm Women’s Club. She was a member of several bowling leagues at Elkins Recreation Center and a shuffleboard league in Lakeland, Florida, where she spent her winters. Orlena was a member of St. Brendan Catholic Church in Elkins since 2001. Prior to that, she was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Thomas and Our Lady’s Guild of St. Veronica Church. Friends may call from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Monday, June 27, 2011 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. On Tuesday, June 28th she will be moved to St. Brendan Catholic Church where the Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM. The Very Rev. Father Donald X. Higgs, VF will be the presider and interment will follow in St. Brendan Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Brendan Catholic Church, Rt. 4 Box 515, Elkins, WV 26241 in memory of Mrs. Huffman. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Orlena Cousino Huffman.
