Owen Black, age 84 of Buckhannon, WV died Thursday, October 18, 2012 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon. He was born February 8, 1928 in Elkins, WV, a son of the late Elva Black and Ivy Koon Black Shipman. On December 10, 1992 he married Cecelia Bachman who survives. Also surviving are three sisters Catherine Light, Carolyn Smith Brown and Leona Dean and husband Dewey, all of Buckhannon; three brothers, Johnny Black and wife Judie of Buckhannon, Ralph Black and wife Marie of Valley Bend, WV and Russell Black and wife Shirley of Buckhannon; one sister-in-law, Bonnie Black of Buckhannon; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Homer, Arkie, James Black and twin brothers and two sisters, Lena and Glenna Black. Mr. Black was a truck driver. He was a Life Member of the DAV of Carter, WV and a member of VFW Post #3663 of Buckhannon. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. Friends will be received Sunday, October 21, 2012 from 6-8 PM at Poling-st. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 11 AM on Monday at the funeral home with Rev. Jack Bohman officiating. Burial will follow at the Buckhannon Veterans Cemetery in Buckhannon. Buckhannon VFW Post #3663, Frank B. Bartlett Post #7 American Legion and DAV Posts # 5 & #36 will conduct military honors at the graveside. Poling-st. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
