Paul Edwin Chase, 89, of Route 4, Box 577C, Buckhannon, died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003, at 10 p.m. at the home of his daughter, Cindy Long of Kesling Mill.

He was born Aug. 28, 1913, in Glady, a son of the late Adam Milton and Hattie Rachel Grogg Chase.

On Dec. 23, 1949, he married Thelma May Lantz Chase, who preceded him in death on Aug. 23, 1992.

Surviving are one son, Edwin Chase, Buckhannon; three daughters, Faye Hart, Saudi Arabi, Cindy Long, Kesling Mill, and Jane Austinson, California; one sister, Dorothy Torre, California; one grandson, Jamie Hart, Austin, Texas; one granddaughter, Melanie Moreno, Florida; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Neal Ketterman; and three brothers, James Chase, Hayward Chase and Forrest Chase.

Mr. Chase was a retired coal miner and a member of the United Mine Workers of America.

He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps and was a medical specialist in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He participated in the D-Day landing at Normandy and served until the end of the war.

He was an avid trout fisherman and a member of Buckhannon VFW Post 3663.

He was a Protestant by faith. Graveside services will be at Heavner Cemetery at Buckhannon Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. J. Edward McDaniels officiating.

Interment will follow. Poling-St. Clair

Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
