Paul William Springer, 91, of Fairmont, Winfield Community, passed away Thursday (Dec. 1, 2011) at his home.

He was born in Fairmont on Nov. 12, 1920, a son of the late Ira Elliott and Gertrude (McElfresh) Springer.

Paul was a 1937 graduate of East Fairmont High School and went on to proudly serve his country with the United States Army. He was a self-employed farmer by trade, and he also owned and operated his own sawmill. In his earlier years, he had also worked with the contractor on the refurbishing of the Fairmont Hotel. Paul was an excellent self-sustaining farmer. He enjoyed beekeeping, farming and woodworking.

He is survived by his brother, Harold S. Springer of Fairmont; two nephews, Norman A. Springer of Martinsburg and David F. Springer of Fairmont; and a niece, Laurel Springer of Fairmont.

Also surviving is his sister-in-law, Juanita Springer of Fairmont; and his good friend, Bob Starn of Catawba.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Elliott Springer and Kenneth Springer.

Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday.

The funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 2 p.m. Sunday with Pastor Jim Zinn officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Fairmont.
